Some very important personalities have visited the acting president within the course of the last two days.

On Wednesday, February 22, Osinbajo had the pleasure of receiving General Waldhauser, Commander of the US-Africa Command and Hon. Symington at the Aso Villa.

At the meeting, General Waldhauser expressed the readiness of the US government to accelerate its contributions to the war on terrorism.

The xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa seem to be growing as more people have revealed how they tried to survive the situation.

Vanguard reports that Amb. Uche Ajulu-Okeke who is Nigeria’s consul general in South Africa visited victims of the xenophobic attacks and they narrated the vivid encounters.

Ajulu-Okeke described the attacks as unfortunate and that while a pastor was stabbed; another was arrested by security operatives for defending himself against machete-wielding attackers.

Angry protesters have broken into an office of one of Nigeria's telecommunications company MTN in the Maitama area of Abuja on Thursday, February 23, The Cable reports.

The protesters attacked some members of staff of the organisation and customers and carted away valuables.

According to a witness, it was the timely intervention of policemen that prevented the protesters from destroying the building.

The policemen have now taken over the area while work has been suspended at the office.

In a world laden in technology, social media is usually the order of the day. But did you know that some practices on social media can have the same effects as smoking or drinking?

The millennial generation is almost synonymous to selfies and social media. That said, it is not unusual to literally know the entire life story of someone simply by scrolling through their Instagram page.

From the moment they graduated to throwback pictures of one in his heyday, social media highlights it all. The older generation (and some much old-school youth) find this absurd, even abnormal. But what makes one completely ‘hang’ their entire life story on social media?

The answer lies in false gratification. The false feeling of ‘instalove’ and Facebook likes. The contemporary generation somehow feel a whole lot of content when they post a picture of a cute baby, a hot selfie, or even one of life’s milestones to the public for some positive ‘feedback’ from the world in terms of likes and a few comments.

What they fail to realize is the fact that it is all superficial. That social media is one big digital jungle where everyone crosses paths every once in a while. The thing called ‘likes’ buttons which people push when they happen to come across a post that slightly raises their eyebrow. If there was the perfect synonym of the ‘like’ button, it would be ‘I’ve seen your post’.

Here is the science behind it. When teenagers and young adults are stressed, they are most likely to resort to social media, simply because they can literally add filters to their problems.

Once they upload a photo of themselves and the likes start streaming in, they almost immediately start feeling elated. They soon feel a false sense of satisfaction as the number of ‘likes’ grows.

Engagement in social media and our cellphones produces a chemical in the body called Dopamine. Incidentally, it is the very same chemical produced by the body when people smoke or drink that make drug users feel good.

This would explain why people count the likes on Facebook. Because every time another like notification pops up, the body experiences another dose of dopamine.

Hence you will find a girl post photo after photo on social media. Others will post their own children right from infancy because they know very well they are bound to get hits. Soon after, they feel obliged to ‘update their fans’ on their happenings. It becomes unusual when they go a day or two without posting on social media for likes.

In the long run, their solid relationships run out, as they value them less and less. Depression can soon kick in, but the posting will never stop.

There you have it. Addiction is not only down to physical drugs. How much dopamine do you produce?

Jamb gives reason, why the delay on 2017 exams

Jamb Removes Scratched Card Platform, the registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Professor Ishaq Oloyede, said the examinations will be coming up later than usual as part of steps to check malpractices.
He said the forms for this year’s UTME will be on sale within two weeks.

B). The examinations will be conducted in May and will not clash with any SSCE examinations.
C). The new date was agreed upon by all examination bodies after going through their timetables.
D). The new timing of the UTME was to check any form of malpractice, especially upgrading of results.
E). JAMB has scrapped the use of scratch cards because UTME candidates were being extorted.
F). The agency has handed over 10 officials to the police for investigation in connection with fraud associated with sales of scratch cards.
A number of 1.7million are expected to sit for UTME this year (about 1.5million candidates for UTME and about 200,000 and 300,000 candidates for Direct Entry).
You will recall, how the agency caught up with hackers who hijacked the Jamb forms before the end of 2016/2017, the internet hackers sold about 5000 forms online before they were arrested.
Meanwhile, candidates and parents were disappointed over the alleged development by the fraudsters and thank God for their apprehension, this are some of the issues the agency are trying to re-addressed before an adequate date is fixed for the exams
