OUR COUNCIL IS KILLING US!

FOR nine months, 34 families have had no drinking water!
The residents of Blouline Street in Mandela Village, Nelson Mandela Bay told Daily Sun they asked the municipality to fix a leaking pipe in May, but instead their water supply was cut off.
Weziwe Boneli (36) said: “Our council is just killing us.
“We were just responding to a call to save water by reporting a leaking water pipe.
“Instead of fixing it, the council cut off our water supply.
“We have lost count of how many times we have called the municipality to come and fix this problem.
“They just give us reference numbers and promise to come and fix it, but we’re still waiting.
“They only supplied us with water trucks while they were supposedly fixing the problem.”
Weziwe said the lack of water was causing a lot of problems in residents’ lives.
“Our toilets stink because we don’t have water to flush them,” Weziwe added.
“This whole place stinks because people can’t use the little water they have to flush toilets.”
Another resident said it was better when they lived at the squatter camp.
“At least we had most of the things we needed. Why is it so difficult for the municipality to restore our water?”
Municipal spokesman Mthubanzi Mniki said: “We were not aware of the situation in Mandela Village, but we will send a team to investigate.”
