Inoue retains WBO junior bantam belt
The 23-year-old Inoue 12-0, 10 was in control from the opening round against the gutsy 36-year–old Kono 32-10-1; 13 a former WBA champion.
In the sixth round a left hook dropped Kono, but he managed to beat the count. However, soon afterwards a combination of punches sent Kono down again and referee Robert Byrd stepped in to wave the fight off. Time 1:01.
Tanaka wins second belt
Japan’s Kosei Tanaka won his second world belt when he beat Moises Fuentes from Mexico on a fifth round technical knockout in Gifu, Japan to claim the WBO junior flyweight belt.
The 21-year-old Tanaka caught Fuentes with a flurry of punches in the fifth round before the referee stepped in to stop the one-sided action at 2:52 into the round.
Oguni wins IBF junior featherweight belt
Challenger Yukinori Oguni of Japan beat Jonathan Guzman from the Dominican Republic on a unanimous 12 round points decision to win the IBF junior featherweight belt in Kyoto, Japan. The scores were 115-112 on all three judges scorecards.
Ioka retains WBA flyweight belt
WBA flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka retained his belt with a seventh round stoppage win over Stamp Kiatniwat of Thailand in Kyoto, Japan. Time 2:51.
Corrales retains WBA belt in rematch
Jezreel Corrales 21-1-1nc; 8 from Panama retained his WBA junior lightweight belt on a 12 round split decision against Takashi Uchiyama 24-2; 20 in Tokyo, Japan.
The southpaw Corrales was dropped in the fifth round but did enough on two of the judges scorecards to keep his belt.
The scores were 117-10 and 115-1112 for Corrales and 114-113 for Uchiyama.
Taguchi and Canizales fight to a draw
Japans Ryoichi Taguchi 25-2-2; 11 retained his WBA light-flyweight belt with a split draw against Venezuelan challenger Carlos Canizales 16-0-1; 13 in Tokyo, Japan.
The scores were 116-112 for Taguchi and 116-112 for Canizales, with the third judge having it 114-114.
